How do I use Assistant?

Quick Answer

The Assistant in Jylo (formerly called Chat) provides AI-powered conversation and document analysis capabilities. You can start a new Assistant conversation in three ways: from your personal Assistant via "My Assistant" in the sidebar, through the "Assistant" section within a specific Project, or by selecting documents in the Files section and clicking "Chat With Selected Documents."

Detailed Steps

Starting an Assistant Conversation

In Jylo, you have three ways to start working with the Assistant:

  1. Using "My Assistant" in the sidebar:
    • Click on "My Assistant" in the "Me" section of the sidebar
    • This accesses your personal Assistant and provides quick access from anywhere in the platform
    • Any conversations started here will be in your personal Project space
  2. From a specific Project's Assistant section:
    • Select a Project from the dropdown in the Projects section
    • Click on "Assistant" in the Project navigation menu
    • This opens the Assistant specific to that Project
    • All conversations will be saved within that Project
  3. Directly from the Files section:
    • Navigate to the Files section of your Project
    • Use the checkboxes to select one or multiple documents
    • Click the "Chat With Selected Documents" button in the action bar
    • This automatically starts a new Assistant conversation with your selected files attached

Selecting an AI Model

Once you've started a conversation:

  1. Click the model dropdown menu in the top-left corner of the Assistant interface
  2. Browse the available models with their descriptions
  3. Select your preferred model based on the task requirements
  4. Enter your question or prompt in the input field

Tip: Jylo recommends using o3-mini or Claude 3.7 Sonnet for everyday tasks and GPT4.1 for analysing over 100k words across one or more documents.

Working with Document Analysis

When analysing documents with the Assistant:

  1. Ask specific questions about the document content
  2. The Assistant will provide answers with numbered citations
  3. Click on any citation number to highlight the corresponding text in the document view
  4. Verify the AI's interpretation by checking the highlighted source text

Tip: When working with multiple documents, be specific about which documents you're referring to in your questions. For example, "Compare the payment terms in Term Sheet 1 and Term Sheet 3" will yield more precise results than a general comparison request.

Common Questions

What's the difference between Assistant and Flows?

Assistant provides conversational AI interactions and ad-hoc document analysis, while Flows apply structured Playbooks to documents for systematic analysis with verification workflows. Use Assistant for exploration and quick questions, and Flows for consistent, repeatable analysis processes.

What's the difference between "My Assistant" and a Project Assistant?

"My Assistant" is your personal AI workspace in your personal Project, accessible from anywhere in the platform via the sidebar. Project Assistants are specific to individual Projects, and conversations started there remain within that Project's context, visible to team members.

Can I switch between AI models during a conversation?

Yes! Simply select a different model from the dropdown menu.

If You're Still Stuck...

If you're having issues with the Assistant:

  1. Try selecting a different AI model - some models perform better on certain types of tasks
  2. Rephrase your question to be more specific
  3. For large documents, try focusing on specific sections rather than the entire document
  4. Ensure you have not reached the context limit of your chosen model
